Mireia Vintage 2006
This white wine has been made from two varieties:: MUSCAT and GEWÜRZTRAMINER. The Muscat de Frontignan variety has small, extremely aromatic grapes with a lot of terpenes, which are aroma precursors. This means that when you taste a grape, it already has aromas and flavours similar to the wine which is later obtained from it. It is grown in different parts of the Mediterranean basin, from Valencia, through the south of France, to Greece. In El Penedés it is found in the area of Sant Pere de Ribas and Sitges. The Gewürztraminer comes from the Alsace region, which is where it is mostly grown. The word Gewürz in German means spice. Its intense aroma is more reminiscent of spices than grapes. Bodegas Pinord has its own vines with this variety in the Alt Penedes, as it is not widely grown. A variety which, like Muscatel, has a lot of primary aromas which are already found in the grape and are then retained in the wine. Aromas of roses and oriental fruits such as lychees are common in these wines. The 2006 harvest had some rather unusual features. The year began with a cold winter, rain and snow. But after this it did not rain again throughout the whole year, with June and July being particularly hot, although August was cooler. The result was that both varieties, which are of the early kind, ripened well and were harvested at the end of August. Alcohol content of around 12º and good acidity. The coupage of the two varieties multiplies the aromas and in the mouth the tastes complement each other, resulting in a splendid and original wine.
