AOC Costières de Nîmes
The owner, Bernard Angelras, named this estate of 67ha after his son. 35ha are planted with AOC vines. It is on the edge of the ancient town of Nimes.
Terroir
The soils are highly typical of the appellation with large smooth stones from alluvial deposits from the Rhone and Durance rivers on a clay-limestone subsoil.

Syrah 50%, grenache 50%.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested when perfectly ripe then destemmed.
Maceration lasts 18-20 days with perfect temperature control and careful extraction of the aromatic and polyphenolic elements (pumping-over and delestage).
Maturing
When malolactic fermentation is complete, the wines are racked twice and blended.
Then they are left to mature in barrels for 8 months.
Tasting notes
A bright dark wine shot through with highlights. The noticeable red fruit in the nose is accompanied by aromas of cinnamon and spice. The mouth is full of jammy red fruit (strawberry), rounded and well-balanced and finishes on notes of spice (vanilla, pepper).
The youthful tannins mean it will last quite a while.
Ageing potential
Keep for two years after bottling.
Recommended serving temperature
Serve at around 18°C.
Accompaniment advice
Enjoy with meat casseroles and ripe cheeses.
